Herbal Notes… Devils Claw
Devils Claw is an anti-inflammatory and blood cleansing herb, specifically used for joint pain relief. It is looked upon as a natural alternative to bute and cortisone, since it has many similar actions. There are no apparent adverse side effects with devils claw.
A natural, harmless way to combat arthritis, rheumatism, and gout. It has a stimulating and detoxifying effect on the body. It has properties that cleanse deep into the muscle and tissue walls. It cleans the blood and will remove deposits in the joints and help to eliminate uric acid from the body.
Devil’s Claw is a South African plant and derives its unique name from the plant’s peculiar fruits which seem to be covered with miniature claw-like hooks, which have been known to trap and harm livestock grazing nearby. It was originally used by natives of the Kalahari Desert and Namibian steppes as a treatment for indigestion and a myriad of other gastrointestinal disorders.
The British Herbal Pharmacopoeia does recognize Devils Claw as having anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, analgesic, sedative and diuretic properties.
There are no known adverse effects to date. Devils Claw has extremely low toxicity.

Many companies now produce Devils Claw in a liquid form often with other ingredients.
* Devil’s Claw is a uterine stimulant and should not be fed to pregnant mares.
